As well as practicing and performing throughout the school year, the students also get a chance to further hone their musical skills through studies at summer camps/workshops.
Our camps were held in the summer of 2001 in Acton, in 2002 in Grafton, Ontario and in 2003,
2004, 2005 and 2007 at Oselia Verchovyna in Chertsey, Quebec (outside Montreal). For the summer of 2008 the camp returns to Quebec.
2006 was marked with a very successful and eventful concert tour to
Ukraine and Ukrainian diaspora in Poland.
One of the main purposes of the
summer bandura workshop is to substantially bring up the level of playing of the younger students, thereby achieving more uniform consistent, high-quality performances from the Kapela as a whole. Past camps have proven to be very successful in achieving that goal and a very fulfilling experience for the young bandurists. A sense of accomplishment and pride always lightens the young faces at the performers at the camp’s end concert - this year possibly at the renowned Bloor West Festival. This
year we are also planning to release a new CD recording of the best music pieces from the Kapela's
repertoire of the beautiful and sophisticated Ukrainian bandura music.
